One of the trips were look forward to the most. A thrilling whale safari just off the coast of Reykjavik — in a speedy RIB boat, no less! Bundled up in full survival suits (very necessary for the Icelandic wind!), we headed out into the North Atlantic in search of whales.
And yes — we saw humpback whales! Unfortunately, only their backs and tails made an appearance, but still an amazing sight to witness in their natural environment. These gentle giants never fail to impress, even when they’re feeling a bit shy.
Along the way, we passed a small island teeming with puffins — so charming with their colorful beaks and fluttery flight. It was such a treat to see them up close in their natural nesting area. If you want to see the puffins plan you’re visit to the summer month. The puffins spend the winter out at sea 🤷. But they are really cute.
The entire trip lasted about three hours, filled with fresh sea air, dramatic Icelandic scenery, and a real sense of adventure. As we returned to Reykjavik, we were welcomed back by a beautiful view of the city skyline, with the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church standing tall against the sky.
We will definitely be coming back for another whale safari — hopefully next time the whales will be more in the mood for a show!
